Camel milk is attracting millions of people at the global level. The main attraction is its health promising characteristics. Camel milk might be super food as well as a natural pharmacy in the ongoing climate change scenario. Human health's challenges like viral outbreaks, super bugs, and allergies etc can be better addressed with the camel milk.
Category: Bactrian Camel and Bactria
Bactrian camel is found in the cold desert of the northern hemisphere and the region where the two-humped Bactrian camel was domesticated known as Bactria. Bactria is the historic land on the bank of river Oxus, nowadays Afghanistan.
Obesity is one of the most alarming issues of the modern era. Different reseasons have been discussed to be responsible for this problem but still, many more thoughts are emerging and coming into the discussion. I have been following the discussion going on about Gut health and its connection with different aspects of human health and well being What we do and do not know about the gut health.
It is a wide and multidimensional discussion, covering different aspects of the health and the food we eat and the way we live (environment, sleep, stress etc). While following the whole talk and discussion, I have noticed that many aspects of healthy foods are not covered in the topic, here my thoughts go to the camel milk.
CaM is my area of study and the core point of my research and publications. From the last 8 years, I’m trying to write about this natural pharmacy (CaM) in a very general way for the general public to be aware and informed about the superfood. The CaM is really a unique product because of its specially engineered Fatty acids, Peptides, Lactose, nanobodies, minerals composition, casein, whey, and the overall synergic constitutions found in it.
CaM diversify the gut microbiome because of its natural probiotics, GABA and LA bacteria and other constituents (yet to be researched out) and helps in weight control, better detoxification of the body, and boosting the overall vitality of the brain and body. As a personal experience, (taking a glass of CaM daily ) the camel milk really boosts immunity and improve body resistance to the infections (I think both because of the diversification of the Gut Microbiome and the nanobodies and other specialized proteins).
CaM is less insulinogenic diet, meaning not increasing the blood calories abruptly because of its rich ingredients which control the sudden rise of one type of molecule surge in the body. The effect of the CaM really needs control and sophisticated scientific research to better define that conclusion.
CaM wash the body and detoxify the tissues, resulting in the improvement of the all body performance and vitality, resulting in better resistance to diseases and slowing the aging speed. Our bodies are sinking under the burden of the toxins we eat on daily basis without knowing the sources and the consequences of it.
The CaM is a real treasure and blessing of nature, enabling our body to function and sustain in the most difficult era of human history (with perspectives of the food quality). A comprehensive and control scientific research is the utmost need of time to uncover the hidden treasures of the superfood. Health professionals, natural and traditional healers, food scientists and chemists are hereby asked to come forward, make a good team and work on the CaM in different parts of the world.
Camels’ milk is the king of the milk kingdom, said by the Bactrian camel keepers in Central Asia. It is the first choice for health maintenance. They think that their milk is more nourishing than their sister camel (dromedary) and all other animals.
Our milk is high grade but tastes a little bit salty because of my taste as I like salty bushes; the only ice cream for me in the ecosystems where I live. I live in very cold regions and hence producing milk thicker than my sibling dromedary. My milk keeps a desirable PH of the human body as it is a bit alkaline. I have the physical effect on the stomach of my keepers to make them happy and in a good mood. Detailed Nutritional Composition of Bactrian Camel’s Milk
My milk is rich in protein (4.5%), making me special food item for the poor and undernourished group of the human being. Bactrian milk protein contains many health promising elements as various Amino Acids and Vitamins, Lysozymes & Lactoferrin, and Immunoglobulin; all are protective and bio-active.
As recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica; “Camel milk, cold, non-toxic, can invigorate spleen-stomach and replenish vitality, and strengthen tendons and bones, so that people won’t feel hungry after drinking it.“
As recorded in drugs commonly used by Uighur Medicine: “Camel Milk is sweet taste with cream flavor, free of sense of adhesion, a little bitter, and can significantly strengthen spleen and invigorate stomach, nourish the five internal organs and repair the impairments of those organs, strengthen tendons and bones, and recover the vital essence and marrow, so that people won’t feel hungry or thirsty after drinking it.”About Camel Milk~With Bactrian Perspectives
In the blogs published before; almost all the information reported is about the dromedary camel. I was looking if the traditional healers think the same about the Bactrian camels’ milk or not. So, I found a lot of information. A short book I received from the Xinjiang Wangyuan Camel Milk Industry is really full of information. They are really doing a great job.
With thanks to ‘Xinjiang Wangyuan Camel Milk Industry.
The atrocities of climate change are emerging with multi-dimensional outcomes in different parts of the world with different intensities and level of losses. The historical Bactria region1 (Also, Arya) is one of the worst affected ecosystems. This region is the historical home place of some very precious livestock species and cradle of domestication2. The region is the birthplace of Bactrian camel, Yak, sheep, goat, and horses. The regions are well known for its sheep and cattle culture mainly depending on grasses. In the due course of speedy climate change, the rangelands of the region lost many grass varieties and quantity produced per unit of land. Low rain falls, erratic rains, rains beyond proper timing are the main drivers of the climate change and hot spells are catalysts in this regards.
The sheep and cattle industry of the indigenous breeds is under threat. The drought cycles hit the region resulted in the loss of the sheep and cattle. Three species like Camel, goat and donkey are the most resilience to this climate change. Camel is unique because of the long walking ability and resistance to water & feed scarcity as their special traits.
A camel can be a good player if explored to ensure food security in such a climate change scenario because of special traits. Unfortunately, the policy makers of the region have never placed camel at its proper place while fabricating policy regarding agricultural development. Authors have striven for years to bring camel in the mainstream of the policy makers but yet need more to be done.
